Provost
As Provost at Trinity Washington University in Washington, DC., Dr. Carlota Ocampo oversees academic affairs, planning, assessment, and continuing improvement for Trinity’s four schools and the library, instructional technology, academic and career services, institutional research, continuing education, and more. Dr. Ocampo joined Trinity’s faculty in 1997 after completing the PhD in Neuropsychology at Howard University. Across the past 25+ years, she has served as tenured associate professor of psychology; chair of Psychology and Human Relations; associate dean (directing academic advising and the first-year experience); and associate provost for assessment, supporting Trinity’s successful MSCHE reaccreditation. Since transitioning to the provost’s role in 2015, she has directed or collaborated on substantial academic grants to support women from underrepresented groups achieve equity in STEM and in general education. Dr. Ocampo has authored or co-authored numerous publications and presentations on pedagogical and campus reform for changing student populations (Inclusive Excellence); racist-incident based trauma; ethnicity, gender, and disease; women’s leadership in STEM and health field, and mHealth (mobile health technologies) in priority community health populations. She is an alumna of the American Psychological Association's Leadership Institute for Women in Psychology (LIWP) and is a member of the LIWP advisory council. She is on the Board of The Steve Fund, the premier national organization for the mental health and emotional well-being of students of color in higher education, and was a national advisor on the organization’s Equity in Mental Health Framework and the COVID emergency task force. She is a peer evaluator for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education; since 2005, she has chaired or participated as team member on numerous accreditation reviews. Her academic and research interests encompass diversity, psychology of oppression, structural inequity, health, and education; she most enjoys engaging with student-centered academic initiatives, culturally relevant health research, and life-long holistic development.
